Serve at the Mass

“Mother Church earnestly desires that all the faithful should be led to that fully conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations which is demanded by the very nature of the liturgy” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 14).

Once fully initiated in the Catholic Church through Baptism, Confirmation, and first holy Communion, the Church invites us to share our gifts and talents in the Holy Mass.  St. Malachy offers many ways for us to do so while participating in the Mass.

Lay Ministers

The Church calls the laity to assist the celebration of the Holy Mass with reverence and devotion. These ministries are great privileges St. Malachy invites you to prayerfully discern if God is calling you to one of these ministries. Music Ministry

“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 112).

Sacrtistans

All young ladies in 6th-12th grade are invited to participate in our teen sacristan program. Sacristans are responsible for preparing the sacred vessels and vestments used in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. As a sign of their ministry in preparing the altar, the Sacristans carry up the gifts at Mass. Sacristans also ring the outside bells at the Consecration, calling all of the community’s attention to the moment the presence of Christ among us is made real in the Eucharist.

Art and Environment

As we have different seasons in the year, the Church has different liturgical seasons which communicate something to us about our Catholic Christian journey of faith, experience of Jesus our Savior, and our final home in heaven. Through the Art & Environment Ministry, you help prepare the church for the different liturgical seasons and celebrations. This ministry is open to anyone.
