Welcome our New Coordinator of Youth Ministry!

by Father Sean Danda on February 18, 2022

Dear Parishioners:

After a very long wait, I feel like we have found the right youth minister for our parish.  St. Malachy has hired Catherine Horvath to be our next youth minister.  Catherine will begin ministry at St. Malachy this summer.  I am very excited about Catherine joining us and all that she will bring to St. Malachy.

Currently, Catherine is a High School English teacher and Junior High Theology teacher at St. Joseph High School in South Bend, IN.

The following is a short introduction from Catherine about herself:

Hello, St. Malachy’s family! My name is Catherine Horvath, and I am happy to be taking on the role of Coordinator of Youth and Campus Ministry at St. Malachy’s this summer! I am a fellow Hoosier, born and raised in South Bend, IN. When I was in grade school, my grandmother had my twin sister and me go through the sacraments of initiation and shared with us the most precious gift of her Catholic faith. I know deeply the importance of campus ministry as I took ownership of my faith in high school when I became very actively involved in Saint Joe High School’s campus ministry. I held onto that faith when I attended IU Bloomington for a Bachelor’s in English and Marketing. While teaching high school English and then middle school Theology, I completed a Master's in Theology at the University of Notre Dame. One of my favorite classes was an independent study on the Theology of the Body. I look forward to meeting the parishioners of St. Malachy’s this summer and working with your middle school and high school students! I hope and pray everyone has a spiritually renewing Lenten season.

Please pray for Catherine as she makes this transition. Thank you to all those who have been supporting St. Malachy Youth Ministry in the absence of a youth minister!

In Jesus, through Mary and St. Joseph,

Father Danda
