Teaching our Children

by Father Sean Danda on August 08, 2021

Dear Parishioners:

A new school year is upon us!  Many have already started school, and this Wednesday, St. Malachy School will also kick off the academic year.  However, this Sunday, August 8th, our Religious Education (R.E.) program begins for all those not attending St. Malachy School.  Classes will be on Sundays from 8:30am to 10:00am for children 4 years old to 7th grade.

Last year we went from an hour long class to an hour and a half class.  This seemed to be successful allowing catechists to maximize their time and discussion on topics of the faith.  It also allowed us to have fewer total classes – from thirty (30) to twenty (20) total.  This is helpful as we try to juggle multiple school schedules.

Confirmation Registration and Parent Meeting

St. Malachy’s Confirmation program is open to any parishioner in the 8th grade who has been baptized and made their first Holy Communion.  If you are in high school and have not been confirmed or in 8th grade but have not been baptized or made first Holy Communion, please contact me at   about how to proceed.

On Sunday, August 15th, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm in the church, there will be a parent meeting for all those who wish to participate in this year’s confirmation preparation program.  We will be following the same format for confirmation classes as last year – small group sessions led by an adult leader.

We are still looking for adult leaders and other parents to commit as the second adult present at meetings per the child safety requirements in this Archdiocese.  Please reach out to me at   if you are interested in assisting for more details.

Prior to the parent meeting, please be sure to register your child by filling out the online registration form found on the website www.stmalachy.org under “quick links” in the “sacraments” section.

Journey High School Youth Group

This Sunday evening, August 8th, we will be having our first Journey High School Youth Group meeting in the Holy Family Room from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  If you are a high schooler, you are welcome to attend.  Food and fellowship begin at 6:00pm with an exciting evening to follow.  Hope to see you there!

In Jesus, through Mary and St. Joseph,
