Clubs & Activities

Band

At St. Malachy, all students in 5th-8th grade are welcome to be part of our band program! We have two bands--a beginning band for new members and an advanced band for those students with more experience. Band is a wonderful part of a student's school experience, and can be life-changing. Music teaches unique and essential skills such as creativity, emotional expression, physical coordination, teamwork, discipline, artistry, and so much more. Specifically, band can also be a wonderful way to deepen connections with friends while learning new things.

Chess Club

Students in 2nd through 8th grade attend practices to learn to play and then enjoy the game of chess by playing against their peers. Chess club members also have the option of joining the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) competition teams. Children do not need to attend St. Malachy Catholic School to participate.

Choir

The St. Malachy School Choir, Bella Voce (meaning Beautiful Voice), is made up of 4th-8th grade students who love to sing. The choir leads the singing at our weekly all-school Masses. The choir students participate in other singing activities during the school year such as school programs and the CYO Music Competition in February. Singing in Bella Voce is a wonderful way to use our gifts to praise God and to grow in musicianship!

Middle School Houses

Middle School students are grouped into "Houses" for activities, service projects, and school events. Houses lead and contribute to all-school drives, such as the Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive, and spirit activities including pep rallies and Green & White volleyball. Houses work together as a team to earn points for incentives such as casual days with the top yearly house point leader earning an all-day outing.

National Junior Honor Society

Student members of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) have a commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Chapter membership recognizes students for their academic accomplishments and challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

Piano

St. Malachy Catholic School offers private piano and keyboard lessons during the school day and afterschool with Mrs. Mary Kay Loviscek. Please click the link for more information.

Rube Goldberg

Our Rube Goldberg team models the work of Rube Goldberg, a scientist, cartoonist, and inventor. Students use their creativity, leadership, social, engineering, and problem-solving skills to build an overly complicated or not-so-complicated machine that bears Rube’s name. It's hands-on imagining, designing, and building fun!

Service

At St. Malachy Catholic School, we believe one of the ways to become more like Jesus is to serve. We also believe our students grow in their relationship with Jesus by serving others together as a Shamrock family. St. Malachy students serve by volunteering off-site and by participating in classroom projects and school-wide service programs. It brings us joy serving others as Jesus did.

Scouts

St. Malachy sponsors several scout troops by providing meeting space and resources. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Daisy Troops share a commitment of being honest and helpful, considerate and respectful, and making the world a better place.
