Important reminders:

  • Our next Scholastic book orders are due by Tuesday, October 12. Catalogs will be sent home next week.  Digital flyers may also be viewed at: https://editions.mydigitalpublication.com/publication/?i=667459 Parents are welcome to go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and enter our class activation code: TDQFR.  If you are unable to order via the internet, I will be more than happy to process your order with payment.  This is an excellent opportunity to help our class earn books for our library. 
  • ClassDojo-Behavior reporting started the second week of school.  There are some parents that have still not signed up to see their child's behavior and progress.  Please be sure to do so as soon as possible.  If you need a copy of your unique code, please contact Mrs. Imel. Please know that most of the behavior that is reported is very age appropriate, and we will work with each student to correct the behavior.  If at any time we have a serious behavior issue that requires immediate attention or are needing extra parent support for a specific behavior, Mrs. Imel will notify you via email or phone call. 
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences Parents will need to sign up for a parent/teacher conference at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B094CAFA82BA7F58-clovers. There will be no drop-in conferences for Clovers.
  • If you choose to send your child to school in a mask, we ask that you please send in an extra mask as a backup.
  • Students are allowed to wear St. Malachy spirit wear and jeans or uniform bottoms on Fridays only, unless there is notification of otherwise.
  • Blankets will be sent home for cleaning every week on your child’s last school day of the week.  Please be sure to send them back upon your child’s return to school. 
  • Blankets must be small enough to fit into a gallon baggie as our cubbies are not big enough for large blankets. We ask that students do not bring in pillows or stuffed animals for rest time.
  • Students wearing skirts or dresses are to have cartwheel shorts worn to cover their undergarments.

Important Dates:

September 23- Picture Day for T, TH and M-F students. 

September 24- Picture Day for MWF students.

September 28 - Cans in Your Hands for a casual day.  Students may bring in non-perishable food donations or monetary donations for the Brownsburg Cornerstone Food Pantry to be dressed in casual clothing that day.

October 13 & 14- Parent Conferences - 1:00 p.m. dismissal

Upcoming This Week:

Letters, Numbers, & Writing

We are continuing letter recognition and order through repetition. Each morning, we will use alphabet chart to recite. We are counting to 10 by repetition. Each morning, we will use our number chart to count. We will also be working on pencil control and building up hand muscles through sensory play.

We will be continuing our World of Wonders Curriculum Unit 2:  Making Friends.  This week, we will be learning about how we can help our friends and how we follow rules at home.  Our focus letter of the week will be letter M.

Science

We will learn about what it means to predict by predicting patterns and and playing “sink or float?”

Social Studies

We will be exploring how we follow rules at home and school.

Religion and Catholic Identity

Clovers will be practicing how to make the sign of the cross. (This will be a work in progress throughout the year.) 

We will be beginning Unit 2: “God Made Me Good” of the God Made Me Catholic religion curriculum by Loyola Press. This week’s theme is “I Can Help”.  Students will learn that Jesus was a helper and that he likes us to follow his ways as helpers too.

Social and Emotional Learning

We will continue Slumberkins Hammerhead’s Recess Challenge. This lesson supports conflict resolution, helping students to learn the beginning steps to emotional regulation, how to welcome all feelings including anger, and the skills to repair conflict with peers. We will be working on Lesson 2: Mad and Calm: How Does it Feel?  This lesson helps children understand how mad shows up in their bodies and how it differs from their feeling of calm. This lesson will also introduce students to various strategies and tools to support and take care of their feelings when noticing the signs of feeling mad in their bodies.  The students will be working on a “Mad Matters and Calm Feels Cool” mini-book to use and determine how MAD and CALM look and feel in their bodies.

Art

We will be making Helping Hands Art

STEM (afternoons)

Storytime STEM: Johnny Appleseed.  This week, we will read the story and jumpstart more scientific thinking.  Students will learn about how apples grow and explore different parts of an apple.  Students will come up with ideas and designs for an apple picker and make their version of an apple picker with items from the Maker Space.
