Pre-K Happenings

Unit Theme

Thanksgiving:  How do we celebrate Thanksgiving?  We will be explaining to our students that on Thanksgiving Day our families sometimes get together for a special meal.  The children will also learn that this holiday began over 200 years ago by the early settlers in America.

Religion

We will  talk about how on Thanksgiving we gather to give thanks for God’s gifts of the harvest and the foods we enjoy every day.  We will discuss that even though food comes from the store, all foods are gifts from God.  God gives us these foods so that we may grow too.  Our review question is, how will you say “thank you” to God?

Pre-K STEM Happenings

Our theme for the month of November is the five senses, nutrition and Thanksgiving. Next week we will focus on the sense of taste and smell. Our 5 senses experiment will be “The Label Fell Off the Salt and Sugar Jars”.  Use your 5 senses to determine which is salt and which is sugar.  We also make scratch and sniff names with flavored jello.  We will try to guess some smells! We will also taste a pomegranate.  Our Makerspace cart will come into the room when we make a turkey trap to catch our turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. We continue to discuss the healthy choices we can make when we eat, as well as discussing which foods we liked at Thanksgiving.

For math, we are continuing with number identifying, counting, writing numbers, graphing, more than/less than concept and patterns.  We will continue working on the concept of addition.

We will be doing some hammering next week. We are still using golf tees, but instead of pumpkins, we will hammer into styrofoam.  Also, we will be using hammers instead of wooden blocks.

All About Me sheets continue to come home.
