Bienvenidos to the St. Malachy K - 8 Spanish Program!

Kindergarten - 2nd Grade  has Spanish once a week for 30 minutes.
3rd - 5th Grade has Spanish twice a week for 30 minutes per class.

K - 5 students learn through a whole language approach.  We practice on Spanish speaking, reading, writing and listening skills and study the culture of the 21 Spanish speaking countries of the world.  Some activities include worksheets, computer activities, videos, skits, songs, games and crafts.  Many K - 5 units of study are based on www.rockalingua.com activities.

6th - 8th Grade has Spanish three times a week for 42 minutes per class.

Students learn through an oral / structural method.  We practice on Spanish speaking, reading, writing and listening skills and study the culture of the 21 Spanish speaking countries of the world to be globally aware and to be open minded  and accepting citizens of the world.  Some activities include worksheets, workbook activities, iXL, skits, projects, games and crafts.  The last semester of 8th grade is taught all in Spanish.   We use the McGraw-Hill, Asi Se Dice! middle school textbooks and workbooks throughout our middle school classes.

St. Malachy Catholic School has one Spanish teacher.  Sra. Owen has a Bachelor’s in Science in Spanish and Master’s Degree in Language Education specializing in Second Language Learning from Indiana University.  She participated in IU Honors Abroad Program and lived in San Luis Potosí, Mexico in high school.  In college, she attended La Complutense University of Madrid in Madrid, Spain.
