Because we have so many things going on and coming up soon at school, I thought this information would be helpful sooner than later. Another blog post will come out Monday as well. Have a great weekend and God bless.

Dear Parents,

You can expect an email from me every Monday.  However, we have so many things going on or coming up soon I felt this information would be helpful sooner than later.

Middle School Shamrock Store - Our middle school students visit the Shamrock Store tomorrow.  We still need fun size candy and mini cans of soda pop.

NWEA Map Growth Assessment - We have decided to change our formative assessment vendor from Renaissance's Star Testing to NWEA's Map Growth. I have attached information about this assessment.  We will be administering this assessment next week.  Students in kindergarten and first grade will take Reading and Math sections. Second through eighth graders will take Reading, Language, and Math sections. We will administer this assessment in the Fall, Winter, and Spring.

Trash Bags - Our annual PTO trash bag sale is going on! I've attached the flyer with incentives. There may be staff members that want and need trash bags, wink, wink. The proceeds go toward buses for field trips, pottery, novels, PE equipment, and many other enrichment items for our school and students. Thank you PTO and families!

School Counseling Informed Consent letter/form - In your Back-to-School packet, I included this letter from Catholic Charities.  I apologize that I forgot to explain this letter. As you know, our focus is to not only support students academically, but socially and emotionally. This form explains that St. Malachy has a school social worker from Catholic Charities that is available to offer social and emotional support to all students.  This form gives consent for our social worker, Ms. Patrice Uminski, to talk with your child during the school day if needed for support. You would be contacted if your child did speak with Ms. Uminski.  If you know that your child on occasion can have a rough day and might benefit from talking to someone that day to help them relax and/or calm down and refocus themselves to be able to focus in the classroom, you can complete this form.  If, at this time, you don't foresee your child needing this service, you do not need to complete this form.  Keep in mind that your consent is not required If:
• The student reveals information about hurting himself/herself or someone else.
• The student or someone else may be in physical danger or experiencing a medical emergency.
• A court order is received directing disclosure of information.

Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts - Event this Saturday, August 20 for K - 5th grade boys.  See flyer for details.

Spirit Wear - Sale ends Sunday, August 21st. Don't forget to order spirit wear and prolife shirts.

Youth Ministry: Quest - If you registered for the bonfire and smores at Camp Coyote, bring hotdogs or buns or both.

*Quest is for middle school kiddos

Knights of Columbus Golf - Good luck to all participating like Father Danda and thank you to all those that are volunteering.  I'll be driving a beverage cart so flag me down for refreshments. Thank you to the Knights for organizing this fundraising event with proceeds going toward a new sound system for the gym.

Frisbee Golf - You may have noticed we now have a frisbee golf course installed.  This was part of the Sham-a-Bration fundraising for our beautiful playground package. Also the basketball goal for our younger kiddos was installed as well.  Thank you Doug Tapscott and all your volunteers that helped to install these fun items.

Have a great weekend and God Bless.

May God bless and keep you,

Mrs. Saundra Kennison
