Middle School Religion with Mrs. Cain
Our Faith Can Move Mountains!
Religion-Jenna Cain, teacher
First of all I consider it a real privilege to have your child(ren) for Religion class. I’ve been praying for them every day and will continue to do so all year. My goal is not only to help them understand the subject matter in our text but most importantly give them the environment and tools to work on their own relationship with Christ. My hope is that they become increasingly aware of how much God loves them and cares for them. As they are trying to become more and more independent I want them to see how important it is that they grow more dependent on God in their everyday choices and decision.
All middle school students have Religion four times a week: every day except Wednesday
when we go to Mass and sometimes Adoration and Benediction.
The 8th Grade Text
will cover Church History. It will also cover scripture, liturgy, prayer and social justice. We will focus on our Catholic heritage; what we believe as Catholics and the sacraments and seasons of the Church. Before each new chapter the students should bring home a “Get Connected” take home page which has suggestions to reinforce your child’s faith. Ask your child for it.
The 7th Grade TExt
will incorporate many New Testament stories to teach scripture, liturgy, prayer and social justice. We will also focus on our Catholic heritage; what we believe as Catholics and the sacraments and seasons of the Church. Before each new chapter the students should bring home a “Get Connected” take home page which has suggestions to reinforce your child’s faith. Ask your child for it.
The 6th Grade Text
will incorporate many Old Testament stories to teach scripture, liturgy, prayer and social justice. We will also focus on our Catholic heritage; what we believe as Catholics and the sacraments and seasons of the Church. Before each new chapter I will send home a “Family Talk” take home page which has suggestions to reinforce your child’s faith. Ask your child for it.
Tests
will be at the end of each chapter with a unit test at the end of every four chapters. We highlight most of the material that will be on the test and will talk about various ways to study. The students can try the practice test on the website to study as well. Each chapter may have a different style quiz along with an activity. Click here to visit Blest Are We!
Tic Tac Toe
(not 3 in a row!)
There will be three Tic Tac Toe assignments due each Religion unit. They are each worth 10 pts. Each activity will be graded on: completion according to directions, neatness and effort. They can be turned in at any time throughout the unit. I encourage students to do them on “slow” homework days or weekends. The idea is that instead of me deciding on an assignment for everyone that they can choose what they like best. They also may come up with their own ideas as long as they have them approved by me. These are always the BEST!
Grading
I grade on a point system. Tests 20-25 pts plus a bonus, unit tests 30-35 pts, Tic Tac Toe 10 pts each(3 due each unit), occasional homework 5-25 pts, Journal 1 pt /day (if not present it is their responsibility to write eg. Absent, dentist or whatever), occasional extra credit offered to the entire class. (2-10 pts)
Blog
The blog will be updated each week with a “Monday Memo”. You will be informed on what chapter we are studying, objectives, test dates etc.
