Longtime Educator Saundra Kennison Named Principal of St. Malachy School in Brownsburg

Brownsburg, Ind. - St. Malachy School in Brownsburg today announced Saundra Kennsion, a veteran educator of 31 years and Noblesville resident, as the next principal and administrator of the preK-eighth grade school. Kennison was named interim principal in November 2021 and will assume her permanent role for the 2022-2023 school year.

Since 2015, Kennison has served as Assistant Principal of the Catholic school. Under her leadership, the school added STEM classes and a preschool program, which now serves 71 half-day and full-day students. She additionally led the development of the school’s Data Team and Learning Labs, as well as its e-learning program. Her work also included the development of a successful remote learning and virtual support program during the COVID-19 pandemic. She began her tenure at St. Malachy School in 2010 as the health and physical education teacher and later served as Dean of Discipline from 2013-2015.

“Now more than ever, schools need visionary leaders who anticipate and solve for new challenges and who always keep the individual needs of students first,” St. Malachy Pastor Father Sean Danda said. “As we conducted our principal search, we recognized St. Malachy had the leader we needed in Saundra Kennison. Her commitment to continued growth - academically, socially, and spiritually - will serve our students, families, staff, and community well into the future.”

A Catholic-school educator for more than 15 years, Kennison joined the Catholic Church in 2015. She attends Our Lady of Grace in Noblesville, where she serves as an Extraordinary Minister, participates in the Respect Life ministry, and leads Magnify 90, a ministry for women.

“I believe that Catholic school education is a unique opportunity for students, families, and staff to journey daily with God while providing students an excellent education that prepares them for every stage of life,” Kennison said. “It has been a privilege to walk alongside our St. Malachy School family in this journey for 12 years as an educator and Assistant Principal and now to lead our school community as Principal.”

Kennison has outlined three pillars of her vision for the school, which include to:

  • Foster a strong Catholic culture that serves, loves, cares for, and protects all human dignity and life;
  • Enhance professional development in academics, instructional practices, data analysis, and leadership; and
  • Strive for academic excellence that emphasizes faith, student leadership, and life-long learning.

St. Malachy School has 480 students enrolled in preK through eighth grade, as well as 62 faculty and staff members. The school has consistently been designated an “A” school by the Indiana Department of Education.

Prior to St. Malachy, Kennison served as the health and physical education teacher for Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Noblesville, Ind., and as an instructional aide at Wheeler Elementary in Speedway, Ind. For 10 years, she has served as a summer school teacher for Indiana Online.

Kennison holds a master’s degree in School Administration and Teacher Leadership, as well as her principal licensure from Indiana Wesleyan University. She received her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health endorsement from Indiana University.
