Confirmation is a wonderful sacrament that all
students in the 9th grade and above are invited to attend in.
Confirmation is a sacrament that has a very long history in the
Roman Catholic church. To put it in it's most basic sense,
it is when a person is admitted to the church as an adult
member.
There is a ceremony to celebrate this, in which the bishop of
the student's local diocese, anoints each person to be confirmed
with holy chrism and says a short blessing over the student.
If in the event that the bishop cannot attend to the ceremony
due to location or other conflict, he can appoint a person to
take his place at that ceremony and that person will be given
the full ability to anoint those about to be confirmed with the
holy chrism.

Normally, all students that are to be confirmed,
are required to be involved in some sort of a class that will
prepare them for the sacrament in mind, body, and spirit.
Saint Malachy has an excellent program just for this.
During this program, their will be regularly scheduled meetings
in which each student is invited to involve themselves in
various activities that may center around prayer or community
service.Each
student should be aware of the fact that he or she must have
fulfilled the required amount of service hours! For each
service done, a paper will need to be submitted to Renée Hansen
and she will keep a record of it for you, however it is good for
you to keep all of your hours counted up so you know how many
you need!
If you happen to be short on
your hours, the small group that you are in will more than
likely decide on a common community service project. This
could be anything from picking up trash at a local park to going
to a nursing home and singing Christmas carols for them.
It's all up to your group and your group leader to decide.
